My favourite Firefox add-ons

Posted by Selkie

Hi readers! You all should already know that Mozilla Firefox is extensible through Add-ons. And there are many, many add-ons for such popular program.
So, in this article, I will tell you my favourite Firefox extensions. Actually I haven’t tried much ones, but I know some very beautiful and useful.

1.- The graphic theme: Foxdie All-in-one

If you’re looking for a Firefox skin, you can get this one. I like it, because it’s fully customizable (colour, buttons…), and it’s not necessary to reset the browser after changing preferences; which can be viewed through a button in the bottom of the screen; they apply instantly.

2.- Blocking ads: AdBlock Plus

It’s usual to find a web with thousands of giant banners, popups, andother kinds of annoying advertisings that impede us view the contents of the site, or misframe the web. This is history with AdBlock Plus, a simple add-on that blocks images and flash objects depending on the filters you applied. It sounds too difficult? AdBlock Plus install some default filters, that block many annoying ads, and you can block another object by two clicks.

3.- Goodbye, downloads window: Download Statusbar

One of the things that I disliked in Firefox was the downloads window. Why have downloads in another window? Why have to change the window to see them? I found it uncomfortable until I installed Download Statusbar, what basically adds a bar in the bottom, where the progress of each download appears. As an extra, you can edit the bars colours, and have it your way.

4.- Help for downloading: DownloadHelper

Everybody has wanted to download a video from a portal like YouTube, or other contents embedded in other website. DownloadHelper allows you to do it! As easy as pressing a button in the upper part of the screen, which tells you if there’s any downloadable file in the current webpage, then you can select and download it. It works depending on the cache memory of the computer, this means the little load bar in YouTube videos, for example. So, if the cache download has completed, we can download the file, and it’s very fast!

5.- Let’s upload soe files!: FireFTP

If you have a web page, you will need a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client for upload and modify files in your site. There are several programs by the Internet, but… why not doing it through the web browser?

FireFTP isn’t more than that, a FTP client integrated in Firefox that doesn’t have any special feature, but you will think that it feels better to upload files through the web browser!

6.- Have a break with: FireNES

Yes, you have guessed it, playing NES in Firefox!! It works with Java, and it has lots of games that you can play. Caution: It’s hard to stop when you start playing… try it!

7.- Downloading massively: DownThemAll

This add-on can be useful if you are, for example, on a webpage with many smilies images and you want to download them all. Instead of downloading them one by one, with DownThemAll you can download all in a time. It also attends download accelerating! And I asure you it works.

And those are all my favourites! There are more, I use more, but I wrote… that’s it, my favourites. I hope they can be useful to you.
